A new Civil Liability Bill is scheduled to hit Parliament next week and to become law by next April, expanding on the traffic and other injury claim reforms proposed in the Prisons and Courts Bill which fell off the legislative dance card due to the 2017 election. It’s premised to cut £80m of business from claimant law firms, reduce pay-outs to claimants, and produce a significant reduction in motor insurance premiums. … We’ll see..

The SRA has pledged continuity of professional indemnity cover for the 200 English firms affected by the collapse of Irish insurer, CBL Insurance Europe.

At least three leading law firms have published gender pay disparities at profit-sharing partner level – much higher in favour of men than those for employees.

A solicitor on trial in the Disciplinary Tribunal, who was defending the prosecution in person but who admitted himself to hospital for treatment for the stress of it all, thereby threatening the progress of the hearing, has been offered funding by the prosecuting SRA to cover the costs of instructing a barrister to present his case in his absence.

Another national law firm Laytons, and three of its partners, have agreed disciplinary fines for allowing misuse of its client account as a ‘banking facility’, not appurtenant to the firm’s services.
